QUICK ANSWERS TO COMMON FIELD SAFETY QUESTIONS
What do I do if someone is injured?
Immediately address any life-threatening condition and call 911 when emergency medical assistance is needed. Make the area safe to prevent additional injuries, then notify your supervisor as soon as possible. All injuries, regardless of severity, should be reported promptly.
If the injury did not require medical treatment, complete the digital Initial Injury Report.
If the injury required medical treatment, complete the Injury Report Form using the link provided above in the Quick Links section.
What should I do if I believe a task is unsafe?
Stop the task if you believe it is unsafe. Do not proceed until the hazard has been evaluated and appropriate controls are in place. Notify your foreman or supervisor and discuss the concern before work resumes.
When is a Job Briefing required?
A job briefing must be completed before work begins. The briefing must address the hazards associated with the job, work procedures, special precautions, energy-source controls, and required PPE. If conditions, hazards, personnel, or the scope of work change in any way that could affect employee safety, stop work and conduct an additional job briefing before continuing.
How do I report a near miss or safety concern?
Report near misses and safety concerns using the links provided above in the Quick Links section.
Provide as much information as possible about what occurred, and any hazards or conditions involved.
If the concern presents an immediate danger, stop work and notify your foreman or supervisor before submitting the report.
What do I do after a vehicle or property damage incident?
Report motor vehicle accidents and property damage events using the links provided above in the Quick Links section.
Stop work and make sure everyone is safe. Notify your foreman or supervisor as soon as possible.
When safe to do so, take photos of the scene and damage and preserve any information that may be needed for the investigation. Do not leave the scene until you have received appropiate direction.
Who do I contact with a safety question?
Contact the safety department anytime you have a question about a hazard, work practice, safety requirement, or jobsite condition. Use the Call Safety or Email Safety links above for assistance.
The Standard You Walk By Is the Standard You Set: This month's ECOS discussion focuses on how the conditions and behaviors we accept become the standards we establish for our crews.
